Salary: $21.25 – $22.38 per hour
Hours: 8am to 4pm – Monday thru Friday with weekends off
Education/Experience: Must be at least 18 years of age and have a High school diploma or GED.
Experience in working with developmentally disabled people preferred.
Communication Skills: Must be able to communicate well in English, both verbally and in writing with consumers, all levels of staff, family members and other persons in the community.
Judgment/Initiative: Must be able to use good judgment in dealing with consumer issues/emergencies, as well as staff related issues. Must work well independently and maintain a good working relationship with supervisor.
Other:
– Valid New Jersey drivers license.
– CPR and First aid certification.
– Physical and negative Mantoux or chest x-ray every year.
Working Conditions/Hazards: Work is active and is performed primarily in the community and occasionally in the day program. The behavior of consumers may change dramatically due to environmental or medical conditions among others, which may, at times, create hazardous situations. Lifting of heavy objects, or persons may be required. You may be required to drive large vehicles. You may have exposure to individuals with Hepatitis B, a blood borne pathogen. You may provide individual support offered in a dignified fashion in the areas of toileting, showering, menstruation, and any other areas of hygiene, ranging from intermittent to pervasive levels.
Essential Functions: Implement activities that promote skill acquisition that will lead to individual integrated supported employment.
Job Duties
Administration:
– Know, understand and follow all Arc policies, procedures and practices as described in The Arc Manuals, DDD Supported Employment and Day Program Manual and by supervisory staff
– Successfully complete the DDD pre-service training; Arc Orientation; CPR and First Aid;
– Preventing Abuse and Neglect; Medication; Medication Administration; Behavior Modification; and any other training required by the supervisor, within 120 days of date of hire
– Maintain a professional liaison and communication with families, residential staff, employers, community members, etc
Support Activities:
· Provide individuals personal care (feeding, bathing, dressing, toileting, lifting, etc.) as needed
· Provide support and redirection to adults who display challenging behaviors
· Implement IHP goals
· Participate in on-going training (both internal and external)
· Participate in staff meetings
· Drive consumers to/from work, or as otherwise directed
· Provide input with regard to individual’s IHPs and IDTs
· Create and maintain community connections (e.g. volunteer opportunities, clubs, etc.)
· Provide leadership and training in a team atmosphere to consumers and co-workers
· Create and implement monthly schedules based on the interests and talents of the consumers
· Maintain a clean, safe environment (building, vehicle)
Documentation:
· Assist with assessments to determine the individual’s current level of vocational skills
· Assist the coordinator with consumer assessments to determine the needs and desires of the individual served
· Complete required documentation on schedule and according to policy
Other:
· Cooperate during investigations
· Perform other related duties as assigned by the supervisor
